A new exhibition featuring the work of Philip King and Jeremy Moon, entitled Moon / King, the Work and Friendship of Phillip Moon and Jeremy Moon, 1956 to 1973 runs at the Thomas Dane Gallery in St James’s from 26 January to 20 April.

Moon / King

The exhibition is spread across both gallery spaces on Duke’s Street. It includes geometric sculptures, paintings, drawings and maquettes by Moon and King from the 60s and 70s.

The artists met in 1956 at Cambridge and remained friends until the death of Moon in 1973.

Their friendship influenced each other’s work. Moon became a painter while King focused on abstract sculpture. They drew inspiration from American including David Smith and Frank Stella, as well as Anthony Caro.

Both Moon and King wished to cast off the post-war period through creating new art forms with innovative materials, entering the world of abstract art.
