If you are heading to the UK capital this Christmas be sure to include the south bank of the river Thames for the London Southbank Centre Winter Festival.

Running from 1 November 2024 to 5 January 2025, the leading festive festival in London includes performances of The Nutcracker, carol singing, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day parties and lots of fireworks. From free art exhibitions to cabaret expect it all in this hugely popular festival which has lots of free events.

Southbank Centre

The Southbank Centre is the leading arts and cultural centres in the capital with theatres, cinemas, exhibition spaces and concert halls as well as many free spaces and events.

You can combine a trip here with a walk along the banks of the river Thames, or visit some of the major tourist attractions in London, including the London Eye, Shakespeare’s Globe and the Tate Modern. There are also many cafes, restaurants and bars in the area as well as a wonderful second hand book market., a short stroll away.

Getting There

You can get to the the Southbank Centre from either Waterloo or London Bridge stations. If you are coming from the latter make sure you stroll through Borough Market, with its many food outlets. Alternatively, you can walk over the Millennium Bridge (from St Paul’s Station) and look at St Paul’s Cathedral en route. All in all whichever route you choose to take, this makes for an excellent day out in the UK capital.
