Gothenburg’s 400 Anniversary Celebration

Gothenburg’s 400 anniversary will be celebrated with a programme of events across the Swedish city throughout the summer of 2023.

The programme will commence with Gothenburg’s Anniversary Festival, which is held from 2 to 5 June. This will be followed by Prototyping Gothenburg, which will transform the whole of the city’s public spaces into an exhibition.

The celebration will continue across the summer concluding with the Frihamnsdagarna and Gothenburg Culture Festival.

Gothenburg’s 400 Anniversary Festival

The fully accessible, four-day Gothenburg Anniversary festival, will be held in Frihamnen from 2 to 5 June. It will include music, great food, special activities and surprises right next to the water.

Prototyping Gothenburg

From 2 June to 3 September the Prototyping Gothenburg exhibition will highlight initiatives to achieve sustainable change. A walking path will stretch from the creative hub in Frihamnen to historic neighbourhood Kronhuskvarteret exploring an urban landscape in transition.

100 years in Gothenburg

Gothenburg 400 is not the only celebration in the city in 2023. A number of the city’s favourite places will also celebrate their 100th anniversary, including Gothenburg Botanical Garden, Liseberg amusement park and Gothenburg Museum of Art. All of these were constructed for the city’s 1923 Anniversary Exhibition.
