From November 29 to December 31, the enchanting Cité de Noël transforms Béthune’s historic Grand’Place into one of the most captivating Christmas markets in the Hauts-de-France region.
Nestled beneath the shadow of the UNESCO-listed belfry and framed by charming Art Deco facades, this festive event draws crowds eager to experience its heartwarming atmosphere—a perfect opportunity to create cherished moments with family and friends.
Cité de Noël: A Festive Wonderland
Starting November 29, organisers invite visitors of all ages to bask in the holiday spirit. The market’s 40 traditional wooden chalets are a treasure trove of artisanal gifts, handcrafted wares, and festive treats. The air is scented with seasonal favourites such as roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, gingerbread and hot chocolate, making every stroll through the market a sensory delight.
For panoramic views of the festivities, guided tours of the belfry are available each Saturday at 3pm and 4pm, offering a stunning perspective of the market from above.
Family Fun for All Ages
This year’s festival brims with activities to delight both young and old. Families can enjoy classic attractions like a Ferris wheel, roller skating rink, carousel, fir-tree-themed merry-go-round, and a festive little train. Special events on Wednesdays and Saturdays feature beloved characters like Mickey, Minnie and Winnie the Pooh, bringing added joy to the season. The market is especially magical at dusk, when the twinkling lights create an unforgettable atmosphere.
Children’s excitement reaches its peak with a series of special festivities:
- Santa’s House & Village of Automatons: From December 7 at 2:30 pm, little ones can meet Father Christmas and post their wish lists in the dedicated letterbox.
- Saint Nicholas’ Visit: On December 4 at 4:00 pm, Saint Nicholas himself will greet visitors, handing out sweet treats to delighted children.
