With breathtaking beaches, amazing landscapes, the most wonderful food and a rich culture, it is no wonder that Sri Lanka has been chosen as the destination to visit in 2019 – even if you don’t love cricket.
The capital is a wonderfully mesmerising place, set on the Indian Ocean. Walk along the long promenade as the sun is beginning to slide behind the horizon and watch sorcerers perform their magic, enchanting locals and tourists alike.
But it is away from the capital that you should head to enjoy the real beauty of the country. Both Kandy and Galle are wonderful cities, rich in history, and in the latter case the most wonderful old fort. The beaches are glorious, and if you time your trip right you can see turtles hatching. And a trip to the central tea plantations is an absolute must.
There is something about Sri Lankan food, with slightly more coconut milk and a tad less spice than in India that makes the cuisine so enjoyable. That plus the hospitality that is universal across this most friendly of countries, will ensure that wherever you go, and whatever your budget, you will never go hungry,
