With eight of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest, ther’s no surprise that Nepal is renowned for its trekking and climbing, Most set off either from the capital Kathmandu to Everest Base Camp, or the second city Pokhara to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) or around the Annapurna Circuit and to Poon Hill.

Nepal Time

One of the quirks of the country is that it has its own time – GMT +5′ 45″ – which is exactly 15 minutes ahead of neighbouring India. We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether this is a politically or geographically driven decision.

Nepal Flag

Similarly, the Nepali flag is unique, at least in its shape. Consisting of two conjoined horizontal triangles that contain the moon and the sun, both design and the red and blue colours are said to represent the dichotomy between war and peace that has dogged this mountainous country.

Nepal Earthquake

In 2015 the country was shaken by the most terrible earthquake that measured around 8 on the Richter scale and killed almost 9,000 people leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.
