The Isle of Man is a self-governing Crown Dependency to the British throne, situated between Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England. The island has been ruled by Vikings, Scots and English over the years but now has an independent status – it is not part of the UK. Tourism flourished to the island in Victorian times, but suffered in the latter half of the 20th century with the advent of cheap holidays to Spain. It is renowned for a liberal attitude towards corporation tax. It is probably best know nowadays for the annual TT Isle of Man races and the tale-less Manx cat. But it also has the longest running uninterrupted Parliament, and was the first nation to give women the vote.
