Blessed with some of the finest weather in the UK, the glorious New Forest and the naval dockyard Portsmouth, the county of Hampshire is a wonderful place to spend your UK holidays.
Lords might be the home of cricket, but it was in a pub in Hampshire that the rules of the game were first drawn up. The Ageas Bowl is the home of Hampshire County Cricket Club and a great place to watch a game of the greatest sport on Earth – or most tedious depending upon your persuasion – and perhaps stay a weekend.
The county is also home to the Naval Dockyard Portsmouth. A trip here makes for a most interesting snapshot of the UK’s naval tradition. Be sure you include a trip to the D-Day Story to see the Overlord Embroidery designed by Sandra Lawrence. It really is a most magnificent piece of work.
Any trip to Hampshire would not be complete without a journey through the New Forest, if only to see the ponies grazing here. Hiring a New Forest holiday coattage is a great way of spending your time here. Alternatively, you could make his a stop over on your way to the Isle of Wight, just off the county’s coastline.
Like with most counties in England, you are spolit for festivals to choose from in Hampshire. We suggest you pop in on either the Alresford watercress festival or the Lymington Seafood festival, or perhaps both. At the former you could even try to break the watercress eating world record.
