Situated at one of the furthest parts of Europe, only 100 kilometres from the Moroccan coast are the Spanish Canary Islands. The warm winters act like a magnet to sun seekers, especially those from Northern Europe. With varied, beautiful scenery, great beaches and buzzing towns, visitors are spoilt for choice. Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria offer diverse holiday experiences.
Fuerteventura
If you want a quiet relaxing ambience and stunning scenery, Fuerteventura could be the place for you. Corralejo Beach is almost 10 kilometres long, surrounded by sand dunes and close to a nature reserve, it is the perfect place to idle away the hours with a good book or take a hike along the beach to stimulate your appetite for dinner at one of the tapas or seafood restaurants.
Sailing Holidays around the Canary Islands
A perfect way to explore these islands is by sailing perhaps by yacht or catamaran, even a dinghy. Holidays are organised in flotillas or shared sail boats. Excursions sail around Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Gomera and Gran Canaria.
La Gomera
La Gomera is a volcanic, mountainous island with it highest peak reaching 1,467 metres. In the upper slopes there are laurel rain forests which have 50 inches of rainfall annually. This is the home of the Garujonay National Park where walkers can try various routes, some for the inexperienced or less energetic, others more challenging. Stunning views abound. The park was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986.
