Sample the Areni Wine Festival, Armenia

With summer slipping away in the UK, plan something upbeat for autumn. Armenians are passionate about their wines, and understandably so: their history of viticulture dates back thousands of years and remains largely reliant on traditional methods.

On Saturday 6 October, in the village of Areni, there’ll be high-spirited grape-stomping, plenty of wine tasting, traditional dancing and music. TravelLocal’s seven-day trip through Armenia, including a visit to Areni to join the festivities, costs from £1,660 pp (two sharing) including B&B, some meals, transfers, excursions and the services of a local guide. Flights extra.
