Return of Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve, China

Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve is one of China’s most attractive national parks but has been closed since an earthquake caused considerable damage back in August 2017.

The park’s facilities have undergone an extensive reconstruction project over the last three years, and Bamboo Travel are delighted to hear that Jiuzhaigou is now re-opening for visitors, although numbers are being restricted and tickets must be booked in advance.

The most distinctive feature of Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve is its crystal-clear turquoise lakes. Combine this with snow-capped peaks, multi-level cascading waterfalls, and verdant evergreen forest, and you can see why the area is especially popular with walkers and photographers.

Bamboo Travel also recommends taking a day to visit nearby Huanglong Valley to see the beautiful coloured terraced pools.  Jiuzhaigou is accessible from Chengdu and can be combined with a stay in the fascinating town of Songpan as well.

The park is currently included in Bamboo Travel’s 16-day Natural Wonders of China itinerary which aims to demonstrate a side of China that perhaps most people never consider, away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded cities, and into the natural beauty of the country.

The trip will provide a chance to wonder at China’s most spectacular scenery, from the exquisite beauty of Jiuzhaigou, to the majestic peaks of Zhangjiajie, instantly recognisable and never forgotten, plus an opportunity to witness sunrise from the summit of Yellow Mountain, the inspiration for generations of painters and poets.

The holiday, which can start on any day between March and November – and which is suitable for return visitors, nature lovers and adventure seekers – costs from £4895 pp (two sharing a room).

This includes international flights, 14 nights’ B&B in hotels (plus seven lunches), all transportation on a private basis, activities/entrance fees and activities as per the itinerary and a guide.

Jiuzhaigou is also included on the 12-day ‘A Taste of Sichuan tour (from £3495 pp) but with the prospect of a high-speed train link in the future it will be even easier to include the Jiuzhaigou on any of Bamboo Travel’s China tours.
