Ionian Villas is the UK’s leading operator to the beautiful islands off the west coast of Greece, and they have been busy spending the autumn and winter months adding yet more gems to their portfolio of properties; now totalling 240 – including 91 on Paxos and Anti Paxos alone – the widest choice of any UK operator.
There are 20 new villas for 2019, from a rare, one-bedroomed property on Paxos, with a private swimming pool, to a grand, eight-bedroomed mansion, sleeping 18, which enjoys spectacular mountain views from its elevated position on the south coast of Kefalonia.
Albizia on Paxos is the perfect option for those who don’t enjoy having to rely on a hire car when on holiday, as it is just a 15-minute walk from the sleepy, waterfront village of Loggos. The modern, four-bedroomed villa sleeps eight in four bedrooms, and has a good size swimming pool which is directly in front of the villa, surrounded by sun loungers.
There are views are over a valley of olive groves to the hilltop houses above Loggos Bay and across the sea to the mountains of the Greece mainland. Levrecchio beach, and the beach at Glyfada Bay, are a 20-minute walk, and a 10-minute walk takes one to the old windmill with spectacular views of Loggos. A week’s stay costs from £1,150 to £3,980 in peak season.
Hilltop House in the village of Kioni on Ithaca, is one of a very few that have a private pool. Sleeping five people in three bedrooms, the property is just a 10-minute walk from the waterfront, with its shop, tavernas and boat hire and, because of its elevated location, it has dramatic views out to sea, towards the islands of Meganissi and Lefkas, and the Greek mainland.
The house – which has a private pool – is spacious, comfortable and peaceful, and enjoys cooling breezes in the summer months. A week’s stay costs from £1,020 to £2,280 in peak season.
Large groups of friends, or families wishing to holiday together, might consider Spartia Retreat (see cover photo) on Kefalonia. With a totally private location and set in the five acres of gardens, the imposing three-floor mansion sleeps 18 people in eight bedrooms.
There are five bedrooms in the main house, and a further three bedroom suites within the grounds. The estate also has its own winery which produces a very pleasant merlot. Just a five-minute drive to Spartia village with its tavernas and beaches, a week’s stay costs from £8650 to £12830 (£712 pp, when fully occupied).
