New Taste Breaks from Riviera Travel

Riviera Travel’s new Taste Breaks culinary collection will be launching next month to offer tailor-made short holidays to ten of Europe’s most enticing foodie cities; Berlin, Bologna, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Lyon, Bordeaux, Bilbao, Athens, Rome and Madrid.

With the introduction of Taste Breaks, UK travellers can now experience flexible, comfortable and authentic European culinary city-breaks with the choice of any return flights from the UK, private airport transfers and the services of a passionate food-loving local host. The Taste Breaks long weekend packages are specially designed to provide plenty of freedom for customers to explore their chosen city and its food scene at their own pace, whilst making the most of the local host’s first-hand expertise.

To ensure an authentic long weekend full of flavour, the knowledgeable and passionate local host provides a personal welcome and insider recommendations on their city’s most important regional dishes and culinary traditions. The host leads an orientation walk to help navigate the city on the first morning as well as a special food-themed walk pointing out under-the-radar restaurants, buzzing food markets and, of course, the unmissable historical sites.

Will Sarson, head of Taste Breaks at Riviera Travel comments, “So many of us love weekend breaks and discovering new cities, but it’s frustrating when you end up eating mediocre food in tourist traps and leave with that feeling that you haven’t experienced the city as locals know it. By creating Taste Breaks, we want to help people have a more authentic trip and get to the heart of their destination. With our incredible local hosts, we know customers truly will see and taste the real city.”

Sample packages:

Prices for a four-day itinerary including flights, bed and breakfast accommodation, airport transfers, services of a local host and food-themed walk start from £417 per person. Taste Breaks departures run from April to October 2018.

Lisbon Taste Break

As Portugal’s cuisine begins to steal the spotlight from Spain, now is the time to experience Lisbon’s culinary highlights. For seafood lovers, the city offers local dishes including octopus salad, grilled sardines and clams in a sumptuous garlic and white wine sauce, whilst those with a sweet tooth can indulge in traditional pasteis de nata custard tarts. This is food for sharing on warm evenings, and the Lisbon Taste Breaks local host will be sure to point out the best and most authentic alfresco tavernas. Taste Breaks offers a four-day Lisbon holiday from £485 per person including bed and breakfast accommodation at the four-star Avani Avenida Liberdade Hotel, return flights from the UK and private airport transfers, as well as a personal welcome from the local host, guided orientation walk and food market tour. www.tastebreaks.co.uk/lisbon-taste-break

Lyon Taste Break

Surrounded by world famous wine regions, Lyon is both a picturesque UNESCO world heritage city and the undisputed gastronomic capital of France, consistently winning over visitors with its incredibly indulgent cuisine. The Taste Breaks local host will highlight the city’s very best ‘Bouchon Lyonnais’ bistros, the simple quintessentially French restaurants with cheery red and white tablecloths which originated in Lyon. Taste Breaks offers a four-day Lyon holiday from £427 per person including bed and breakfast accommodation at the four-star Mercure Lyon Centre Saxe Lafayette Hotel, return flights from the UK and private airport transfers, as well as a personal welcome from the local host, guided orientation walk and Lyonnaise food market tour. www.tastebreaks.co.uk/lyon-taste-break

Bologna Taste Break

Ironically the dish Bologna is best known for, spaghetti Bolognese, isn’t actually local. Instead, freshly-made egg pasta is used for tortellini, tagliatelle and green lasagne which are the must-eat dishes here. The Emilia Romagna region may not be as famous as Tuscany, but it has given the world Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar and Parma ham. The Bolognese people truly adore food and drink, and the Bologna Taste Breaks local host will share their favourite spots amongst the city’s hundreds of osterias, trattorias and ristorantes. Taste Breaks offers a four-day Bologna holiday from £475 per person including bed and breakfast accommodation at the four-star Royal Carlton Hotel, return flights from the UK and private airport transfers, as well as a personal welcome from the local host, guided orientation walk and fascinating walk with a local food expert. www.tastebreaks.co.uk/bologna-taste-break
