Kerala Family Holiday from Corinthian Travel

Corinthian Travel’s new Kerala Family Holiday is a relaxed, 12-day tropical journey, combining fun activities with stunning nature and beach time on the Indian Ocean.

Kerala – renowned for its warm, friendly people – together with the regions relatively slow-pace of life, makes it one of the easiest and most rewarding places to travel in India with children.

The adventure begins with a stroll through historic Fort Kochi – originally a fishing village in the Kingdom of Kochi in pre-colonial Kerala – visiting old European built churches, the bustling spice market and enjoying a relaxing sunset cruise around the harbour.

Next up is a drive to the picturesque Malayattoor reserve forest, spending three nights at a charming, family-friendly retreat, that is set on an island on the Periyar River – one of the few perennial rivers in the region, which provides drinking water for several major towns, and is known as the ‘Lifeline of Kerala’.

Whilst there, there will be an opportunity to try your hand at fishing, go for a guided nature walk through the surrounding forests, take a canoe ride in search of wild elephants, and to cool off with a dip in one of the large natural rock pools.

From there, proceed to Kerala’s famous, tranquil backwaters, where you will spend a night on board your own privately chartered traditional houseboat, which were originally used to ship rice and spices and other goods between Kuttanad and the Cochin port. Nowadays, they serve as luxurious accommodation for visitors.

The cruise will take you through the meandering backwaters to quaint villages, and will provide an insight about the lifestyles of the local communities.

The memorable holiday ends with three relaxing days, in an idyllic, beach-front resort, where you can relax on the beach and watch the kids build sandcastles or borrow bicycles to explore the surrounding villages.

The holiday can start on any day and costs from £1,225 pp (based on two sharing a room). The price includes 11-nights’ B&B (plus two lunches and one dinner),  sightseeing and entrances as per the itinerary, local English-speaking guides for sightseeing, private cruises through Cochin Harbour and the Kerala Backwaters, and private transfers and transport. Flights extra (bookable through Corinthian Travel).
