Iconic Hotel to Open in Pokhara, Nepal

A very special new hotel, the Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa, is about to create a stir when it opens on 1 January 2018. Situated in the peaceful lakeside town of Pokhara, and with views of the snow-covered Annapurna mountains, there is no comparable property in the area. What sets it apart from other hotels nearby, is the meticulous attention to detail, recreating the characteristic style of old Kathmandu by utilising the skills of local craftsmen.

The new hotel – covering an area of 50,000 square feet and with over 100 rooms – cost around $18m to build, and is located in the central lakeside area of Pokhara.  The project is the brainchild of Nepalese businessman Ravi Chandra, who has been in the hospitality and travel industry for 40 years, and who owns the successful local adventure travel company, AmaDablam Adventures.

Comments Ravi: “The idea was conceived 12 years ago with the aim of creating a hotel from scratch utilising the skills of artisans from across the country. We wanted to reflect Nepal’s traditional architecture and help promote and preserve this unique pagoda-style architecture.

“It has taken eight years to build – with many ups and downs along the way – and includes high quality, hand-made wooden carvings and the making of traditional Nepalese dachhi bricks and jhigatic (oil-immersed clay tiles).

“The painstaking construction allows guests to enjoy an authentic, luxurious experience in this peaceful mountain town, situated below the mighty ‘fishtail’ mountain and surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet.”

Other hotel facilities include a choice of restaurants and bars, swimming pool (including a pool bar), conference rooms and a health club and spa.

Room Rates/Tariffs range from $200 (double/twin) to $350 (apartment suite) per night inclusive of local VAT, service charges and breakfast.
