Celebrated on 8 April, the Orthodox Greek Easter is celebrated a week later than the rest of Europe; a great place to witness the event is on the Ionian Island of Paxos.
Ionian Villas has a wide choice of accommodation, from small apartments for two, to grand properties sleeping up to 16 people. Here are just four properties still available for Easter, and within walking distance from town.
Angelika
Angelika is a pretty, two-bedroomed property which is just two minutes’ walk from Gaios, the capital village of the island. The main square has a waterfront which continues around the sheltered harbour and is lined with pastel-coloured Venetian houses, small bars and tavernas. The waterfront and the street below Angelika are pedestrianised – the location is quiet but conveniently close to all the attractions of Gaios village. A hired boat can be moored a few minutes’ walk away and the nearest beach is an eight-minute walk. The property’s manicured garden also has a large Jacuzzi.
A week’s stay at Easter costs from around £175 pp when four share.
Avra
Avra, is a two-bedroomed villa (sleeps five), just a 10-minute walk from the small town of Lakka with its shops, tavernas and restaurants.

It also has a private swimming pool and looks down to the clear turquoise sea of Lakka Bay, with views of the mountains and the Greek mainland.
A week’s stay in April over Greek Easter, which is on 8 April, costs from £200 per person when four people share.
The Doctor’s Studio
Located on a hillside terrace above Gaios village and port is the Doctor’s Studio, a cosy, one-bedroom apartment, ideal for a romantic escape. The studio shares the generous acre of grounds with three other properties, each with its own private outdoor area. There is also a communal swimming pool. From its elevated position, the property has views over Gaios harbour towards the Greek mainland.
A week’s stay over Easter costs just £130 pp (two sharing).
The Gaios View Studios
The four Gaios View Studios have possibly the best views of Gaios harbour, across to the pine forested island of St. Nicholas, and towards the Greek mainland in the distance. Named Turquoise, Lilac, Neptune and Elia, the apartments comprise the top floor of Theklis’ house, set back from Gaios waterfront and reached by a series of steps. The many tavernas, shops and café bars of Gaios are just a five-minute walk away.
A week’s stay over Easter costs from £175 pp (two sharing).
Flights and transfers extra. Flights from £90 per person, hydrofoil transfers (Corfu to Paxos) around £44 pp return. Call 01243 820 928 or visit Ionian Villas.
