Experience Sea Eagles, Whirlpools at Airds Scotland

Airds Hotel & Restaurant in Port Appin, Argyll has launched private boat charters for guests this summer. There’s no better way to discover the splendour of Scotland’s glorious West Coast.

The Tobermory day-trip (from £420 for up to 12 people) picks up in Port Appin and circumnavigates the lovely Hebridean Isle of Mull, with a fascinating commentary from the captain giving chapter and verse on the wildlife and historic landmarks that dot the coastline. Expect to see porpoises, seals and sea eagles, and keep the eyes peeled for a glimpse of an otter and the outside chance of a basking shark or minke whale.

Charters of varying duration can be arranged. Two hours would be enough for an excursion to watch Mull’s magnificent sea eagles. Targets for a longer outing include Islay for a whisky tour, or Ioana and its historic monastery.

Another thrilling option is a wildlife trip in a high-speed RIB, taking in a close-up encounter with the Corryvreckan whirlpool – the world’s third largest. This 2½-hour tour departs from the picturesque village of Easdale, an hour from Airds, via the ever-instagrammable Bridge over the Atlantic (Clachan).

Simply discuss your preferences with the hotel’s friendly concierge team, and let them do the rest; and if you want to take a gourmet picnic, Airds award-winning kitchen team will be delighted to create something special.

After an exciting day out on the water or in the mountains, return to the timeless luxury of Airds, for a relaxing evening and an exquisite dinner, looking out over Loch Linnhe and looking forward to the next adventure.

Airds is an enchanting former ferry inn with grand views across Loch Linnhe to the Morvern Mountains. Attention to detail, elegant décor and total comfort are assured. Airds’ excellence is endorsed by membership of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux, Pride of Britain and Luxury Scotland portfolios.

The restaurant has featured in the Good Food Guide for more than 45 consecutive years and held 3 AA Rosettes for more than 30. ‘Fresh, local and simple’ is head chef Calum Innes’s approach.
