Enjoy a Rajasthan Musical Adventure

Songlines Music Travel has availability on its annual trip to ‘The Land of Kings’, Rajasthan in India departing 28 September, the main highlight of which will be spending four days at the Jodhpur Rajasthan International Folk Festival, for its 10th anniversary, enjoying music by both local and international artists.

The small group of like-minded musical aficionados, accompanied by musicologist Georgie Pope and cultural anthropologist Gopal Singh, will gain unique access to the artists and musicians of the region, and share intimate knowledge of the places visited, thanks to Songlines’ and Georgie’s extraordinary contacts in World Music.

Whilst the holiday is musically themed, there will also be plenty of downtime to explore the towns and villages visited, discovering shrines, temples and forts.

After the first night in Delhi, the next few days will be spent in the area around Mandawa, visiting local villages and listening to Rajasthani music and drumming.

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan is the next stop on the itinerary for two nights, with a chance to explore and to meet classical musicians in the old part of the city, which was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amer.

The town of Pushkar, famed for its Camel Festival, is the next stop and will include a chance to join in a percussion workshop, before heading into the desert on a camel safari for a night under the stars in a nomad-style camp.

Jodphur is the base for the next four days, to enjoy the sights, sounds and vibrancy of the Rajasthan International Folk Festival (or RIFF), before heading back to Delhi for the conclusion of the memorable trip.

The holiday costs from £2350 per person (two sharing a room), which includes all ground transportation, 12 nights’ B&B, plus one lunch and two dinners, (11 nights in hotels, one-night in a desert camp), regional flight from Jodhpur to Delhi, musical activities and two expert tour leaders.

International flights not included (bookable through Songlines Music Travel).
