Riad Africa, an English-owned-and-run property in the heart of the Marrakech Median now offers guests the option of enjoying a Moroccan cooking course in Dar Africa, a medina house attached to the riad.
The riad has a close association with the Marrakech cooking school, which is run by chef Fatim-Zahra, who has over 30 years’ experience of cooking great Moroccan dishes. Guests have the option of private or group tuition (maximum 10 people).
Highlights of the course include a visit to a market to buy ingredients, learning to cook from the calm of the rooftop terrace, with views across bustling Marrakech and preparing and cooking a three-course lunch, under the guidance of a professional Moroccan chef.
The cookery course costs £48, based on two people (reductions for larger groups).
Stays at Riad Africa – which has 23 individually decorated rooms and an in-house spa – cost from £81 on a B&B basis (two sharing a room).
In addition to the one-day courses, there is a choice of four week-long cookery holidays:
- Marrakech Cooking Holiday (from £1095 pp, two sharing)
- Two-centre Marrakech & Atlas Cooking Holiday – Walk & Cook (from £1145 pp)
- High Atlas Cooking Holiday (from £1145 pp, two sharing)
- Marrakech, Atlas & Atlantic Cooking Holiday (from £1195 pp, two sharing)
