Wizz Air Begins European Ramp Up

Wizz Air, one of Europe’s fastest growing airlines and the largest low cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe, today begins the biggest operational ramp-up in the company’s history.

Over the next 17 weeks a total of 21 aircraft will be allocated to its European bases, supporting 700 additional weekly departures, meaning that Wizz Air will operate more than 600 routes connecting 145 destinations across 44 countries. By mid-July flights will begin from four brand new destinations – Athens, Tallinn, Kharkiv and Vienna, with the Austrian capital opening as Wizz Air’s latest European base. This expansion represents an investment of more than $2 billion at 11 bases in the UK, Austria, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania and Georgia.

Today, WIZZ celebrates this great expansion with its passengers by offering 20% off all flights, scheduled until 31 May, for bookings made until midnight on 13 March. Eager travellers looking to explore great places around Europe and beyond can take advantage of Wizz Air’s low fares by booking at wizzair.com.

Furthermore, WIZZ’s savvy customers are invited to celebrate this impressive expansion onboard with the airline’s crew, as well as on social media channels by following #WIZZaroundEUROPE. Passengers travelling on the first flights of the 21 newly deployed aircraft will have the chance of winning £1,000 worth of WIZZ vouchers. Those eager to find out more about WIZZ’s journey around Europe are encouraged to follow the Wizz Air Facebook page, where many more fun surprises await.

Wizz Air begins its 2018 expansion in Budapest this week, with the arrival of a new Airbus A320, which will be the 11th aircraft based in the Hungarian capital. By September Wizz Air will have allocated an additional seven aircraft at its Luton base and will launch eight new routes to Larnaca, Tirana, Tallinn, Bratislava, Lviv, Athens, Keflavik and Bari.

Owain Jones, Chief Corporate Officer at Wizz Air said: “Today we begin the greatest expansion phase in WIZZ’s history to date. Wizz Air remains committed to its mission of making air travel affordable for more people than ever before, by offering the lowest prices made possible by its ULCC business model.  More and more customers choose to fly with Wizz Air every year, enjoying the connectivity of Wizz Air’s extensive network of more than 600 routes. The 70 new routes which will start over the next 17 weeks will add to the opportunities for travel available to our customers which, in turn, will boost the business links and economies of the communities we serve. Our enthusiastic crew is looking forward to welcoming all WIZZ customers on board to enjoy the great service on one of Europe’s youngest fleets.”
