Travelzoo launches #SoloSeptember

Global travel-deals publisher Travelzoo has launched a campaign to combat the single person premiums and high costs that affect the growing number of people travelling alone. A collaboration between Travelzoo and more than 25 industry partners, the #SoloSeptember initiative follows research that reveals many travellers feel penalised by such charges when travelling solo.

Travelzoo has spearheaded the #SoloSeptember campaign alongside participating companies including Cox & Kings Travel, STA Travel and Saga Cruises, and aims to help make solo travel more accessible by offering a month of solo holidays and products without single-person supplements and fees.

In June, a Travelzoo survey revealed that over three-quarters of Brits have either travelled solo or are considering doing so in the future, while more than half (60%) of those travelling alone were either in a relationship or married, showing solo travel is no longer a minority activity. Despite this growth, over a third of those surveyed said that the worst part of travelling by themselves is having to pay single-person supplements.

Announcing the start of #SoloSeptember, Travelzoo General Manager Joel Brandon-Bravo said: “More and more people across Britain are choosing to travel on their own, yet we often hear from our members that they feel penalised for making this choice. Travelzoo is spearheading this campaign to help break down barriers to solo travel, to reduce the cost of travelling alone and to increase the range of experiences that are open to people travelling without partners or families.

“The traditional view of a solo traveller as a twenty-something backpacker hopping from hostel to hostel is no longer true. The modern solo traveller is older, wealthier and may be travelling by themselves simply because they and their partner have different interests in a trip abroad. We’ve had a great reaction to this initiative, with many top brands supporting us as we look to make #SoloSeptember the best month ever to book a solo holiday.”

Travelzoo has launched a #SoloSeptember hub, showcasing deals and offers for single travellers throughout September, at www.soloseptember.com.
