Tenerife Elects 2018 Carnival Queen

Carmen Lourido has been elected as Tenerife’s new Carnival Queen after yesterday’s colourful two-and-a-half-hour gala attended by 5,300 people. Jorge González was responsible for the design of Carmen’s winning dress, ‘Renacida’.

The Carnival Queen Election Gala is one of the carnival’s most popular events and this year the Fantasy theme made it even more remarkable. The opening of this year’s gala was spectacular with a small child entering the stage, carrying his fantasy books as a host of magical characters started to appear, including last year’s Carnival Queen.

The Carnival Queen Election Gala marks the grand opening of the Santa Cruz Carnival, considered the world’s second largest carnival after Rio. Taking a fantasy theme, the Tenerife capital’s most iconic celebration will once more fill the city streets with fancy dress, music, rhythm and colour over the next few days with the Opening Parade (9th February); the family-friendly Day Carnival (11th and 17th February); “El Coso” (13th of February) and the famous “Burial of the Sardine (14th February).
