Levison Wood: The World Needs More Pura Vida

The Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT) has partnered with adventurer, Levison Wood, on its latest  campaign, which aims to promote the country as the ultimate natural escape. The campaign was first launched in late 2020 to encourage visitors to travel post Covid-19 through highlighting the rich culture, nature and wildlife, adventure, wellness and sustainability that Costa Rica offers.

Levison Wood visited Costa Rica earlier this year in search of his “sanctuary”. He visited places including Corcovado National Park, housing 3% of the world’s biodiversity; the wellness town of La Fortuna, famous for its thermal hot springs; Playa Carrillo, one of the country’s most relaxing and picturesque beaches; and San Jose, Costa Rica’s up-and-coming capital city.

Levison was able to do a variety of activities including kayaking and horse riding along the beach, two of his favourites. He was also able to meet the Maleku Indigenous community, who keep its traditions, culture and language alive, as well as 103-year-old Juan Gutierrez, one of the high number of centenarians who live in Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, one of world’s Blue Zones. A summary of his trip can be watched on the Costa Rica Sanctuary .

Levison Wood said: “I am known for my adventures and hard-core expeditions. However, I come to Costa Rica to relax, to unwind and to really feel at one with the environment. It’s also one of the happiest and most peaceful countries in the world. This is why I keep coming back. Costa Rica is my sanctuary. The world needs more Pura Vida.”

Levison Wood is an esteemed explorer, best-selling author and photographer – he describes himself as an ‘adventurous, risk-taker and creative’ individual. His pioneering work has seen him travel to over one hundred countries, write nine best-selling books and produce six critically acclaimed documentaries, including ‘Walking the Himalayas’ and  ‘Walking The Americas’, where he visited Costa Rica for the first time.

Levison joins renowned TV presenter and documentary specialist, Julia Bradbury; travel writer and film-maker, Ash Bhardwaj; and top UK travel blogger, Chloe Gunning (Wanderlust Chloe); in promoting the Costa Rica Sanctuary campaign.

The content-focused website is home to a variety of inspiring videos and stories which showcase the real Costa Rica through real eyes – individuals who explain how they found their ‘sanctuary’ in Costa Rica across five pillars: culture; adventure; wellness; nature & wildlife; and sustainability.
