Algarve Tourism authorities have launched the fourth edition of its innovative arts and cultural programme- 365 Algarve. From now to the end of May 2020, the region will play host to an array of exciting events from theatrical productions, contemporary circus, gastronomy, music to heritage education.
There are over 400 events in the calendar that will play out within the 16 municipalities of the region.
365 Algarve aims to increase tourism in the low season and highlights how the region has so much more to offer than just beautiful beaches and amazing weather. Throughout the autumn into the spring tourists can see another side of the Portuguese region, whilst learning about the rich history and culture.
Here is a taster of some of the events:
Jazz in the Wineries – multiple dates from October to May: Discover sampling a variety of wines from the producers of Silves Wines, accompanied with tapas made from regional products, whilst listening to some live jazz.
Algarve International Festival of Light – 14-16 November: A fantastical festival of light comes to Faro in mid- November. This unique three-day event, the first of its kind in the Algarve, brings together light artists from around the world to form a spectacle of illumination. The festival will include large scale installations and interactive light displays.
LAC Open Days – Street Art Lab – multiple dates from October to May: In Lagos, you can enjoy a journey of discovery of urban art with a guided tour of the works of some of the best urban contemporary artists. You will learn about the possible implicit messages in the murals that reveal cultural, historical and artistic aspects. You can also have a go at street art yourself guided by a guest artist.
Forgotten Food Festival Series – multiple dates from October to May: Taking place at various venues across the region, you can sample local and traditional gastronomy whilst learning about the history behind the fare. Events include: From the Forest to the Dish, and Pathways to Harvest & Cook amongst others.
Contemporary Circus – multiple dates from October to May: You can combine a visit to the beautiful inland mountain village of Monchique or Aljezur, with its stunning panoramic views over Algarve, with one of several shows of contemporary acrobatics, with each show telling its own particular story.
Algarve, An Educated Journey – multiple dates from October to May: Take a step back in time and explore the region’s heritage, customs, traditions and music. Examine how it all has shaped the Algarve into what it is today. The journey begins with a staged show dramatizing the history of the Algarve, native people and traditions. it is interspersed with old songs, followed by a handicraft workshop.
