The Wonderfront Music and Arts Festival 2025 will feature many famous names in March, but perhaps the real star is the city of San Diego itself. There is also a free community stage.

Downtown San Diego boasts pleasant weather, even in November, waterfront parks and walkways. There are dozens of bars and restaurants, but combine them with several large marinas where the boat crews are ready to party and you have a great place for a festival.

Drop into this seven stages on which 80 artists will perform over the three days, and 30,000 tickets on sale then you have all the ingredients for a great experience. Music ranges from rock to indie rock, hip hop, rap, reggae, country and Americana.

Don’t forget the city itself, which is well worth exploring around the scheduled festival (see below).

The festival will include yacht parties, local food, a craft beer village and art installations. Some of the proceeds go to the Rob Machado Foundation and Outdoor Outreach.

History of the Wonderfront Music and Arts Festival

The original event was held in 2019. It is partly designed to boost the downtown area and to promote the city both within and outside the state of California.

The beaches around the city are famous for surfing, though there is also whale watching from December to April. In the port you can visit the aircraft carrier museum, the USS Midway. Balboa Park is huge and includes the San Diego Zoo, the botanical gardens and a number of museums and galleries. The Embarcadero is the name given to the waterfront, which is designed for strolling and, while out, consider visiting the older parts of the city.

The Comic-Con festival is also held in San Diego (July) and the city’s cuisine has been much influenced by the flavours of nearby Mexico. The city of Tijuana is only a few miles to the south.
