November sure is the month for whiskey lovers. After the Seattle Whiskey Extravaganza on Friday 9 November, you could hop on a plane and pop over to Ireland for Whiskey Live on the 23 and 24, just a fortnight later.

The event will be hosted at the Printworks in the historic Dublin Castle on Dame Street and stretches over two days. There are three sessions: Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday late afternoon until mid evening. You can attend up to two sessions, but not both on Saturday. Unlike the US-based Whiskey Extravaganza, it is for 18 year olds and upwards, though be prepared to show ID.

For more ideas of what to do in Dublin, read Irene Caswell’s Things to do In Dublin, the perfect short break, or alternatively you could pop in on the Dublin Book Festival from November 15-18.

Tickets cost €43 a session and are available from the sponsors, Celtic Whiskey Shop, or online. This entitles you to sample the drinks from over 70 exhibitors and the food available, such as whiskey doughnuts and chocolate truffles. You can also attend the Masterclass (where you learn more from the experts), but only in the session you have a ticket for.

There is no shortage of stands and the list reads like a who’s who of Irish whiskey, but with a few Scottish distilleries present too. There’s at least one exhibitor offering a range of rums, another for ciders, and a general stand, or two. If the past year is anything to go by, you should find some gins on offer too.

Responsible Drinking

Whiskey Live states that the set up is designed to encourage responsible drinking. The sample sizes at each stand are modest and complimentary water is available in all sessions. With each session lasting three and a half hours, there is plenty of time to appreciate the different malts.
