Ultra Music Festival background
When you think of Singapore, electronic dance music is unlikely to spring to mind first. Ultra Singapore is part of the wider Ultra Music Festival (UMF) that was born in Miami in 1999, grew into an independent electronic dance music behemoth and has now spread to twenty countries. When the UMF organisers in 2015 tried to find out how popular electronic music was on the nation-island, their single-stage mini event called “Road to ULTRA Singapore” sold out its 11,000 tickets in 21 minutes. The decision was made quickly to return the following year as a fully-fledged two-day festival. With that first edition in 2016, Singapore became the third country that hosted an Ultra Live stage, after Miami – where UMF’s main event takes place – and Ultra Korea.
While Singapore is certainly worth a trip for its own sake, if you’re an electronic music lover then their Ultra festival is a must-visit.
