Fans of the silent screen should virtually head to Bristol this March for Slapstick Festival 2024, a celebration of silent and vintage screen comedy, and much more. The initial Slapstick was held in Bristol in 2005. It has grown into becoming one of the most significant celebrations of comedy films and TV in the UK.
Slapstick Festival Highlights
This year the festival will feature Hugh Bonneville, Sir Michael Palin, Robert Lindsay, Samira Ahmed, Marcus Brigstocke (main image), Terry Gilliam, Harry Hill, Sylvester McCoy, Lucy Porter and Tim Vine.
There will be more than 30 events, including screenings of comedy horror films such as The Cat and the Canary, and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Tributes to Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, and Chaplin, as well as a focus on women in silent movies.
There will also be celebrations of the work of Terry Gilliam, Robert Lindsay and the great Sir Michael Palin.
