Arnold Wesker’s Roots, directed by Diyan Zora, will run at the Almeida Theatre from 1 October to 23 November. It forms part of the Angry and Young season alongside Look Back in Anger.

Roots Plot

Diyan Zora directs a fresh production of Arnold Wesker’s evocative and fervent play, which chronicles a young woman’s path to self-discovery. This play, alongside John Osborne’s Look Back in Anger, revolutionised British theatre.

Beatie Bryant comes back to her Norfolk countryside home, charged with political fervour from her London life. As her family eagerly awaits her zealous activist boyfriend Ronnie’s visit, Beatie finds it challenging to readjust to her former lifestyle. Her progressive beliefs clash with her family’s conventional views, highlighting the generational divide.
