Romeo and Julie is a new play by Gary Owen that will be performed at the National Theatre’s Dorfman Theatre from 14 February to 1 April.

A co-production with the Sherman Theatre, the playe is a modern love story that is inspired by Shakespeare’s famed play, Romeo and Juliet.

Romeo, a single father, is clinging on. Julie is struggling to pursue her goal of attending Cambridge University.

Two Welsh teenagers from completely different worlds — although they were reared in the same neighbourhood — fall in love and are thrown off their feet. But at they approach a crossroads in their lives, Julie’s family fears for the worst, blinded by a world of inequality.


Also showing at the National Theatre are Phaedra and Standing at the Sky’s Edge.

Directed by Rachel O’Riordan, starring Callum Scott Howells and Rosie Sheehy in the title roles.
