Along with Berlin, London and Boston, the marathon in Rome is one of the stand out long distance races in the world.
Rome Marathon 2024 Date?
The 2024 marathon will take place on 17 March. It will set off from via dei Fori Imperiali (Imperial Forum) in Rome, Italy.
Rome Marathon Route?
Running a marathon in Rome is a wonderful experience. The 42-kilometre route takes in many of the most beautiful parts of Rome including the Colosseum, the Imperial Forum – which is the start and finish of the marathon – and the Piazza Venezia. There is an elevation of 30 metres on the route and around six kilometres of cobblestones. See the Rome marathon route map, although this is subject to change.
History of the Rome Marathon
The first Rome marathon was run in 1982 won by the great Belgian long-distance runner Emiel Puttemans. The course record stands at 2:06:48 for men, set by Fikre Bekele of Ethiopia in 2022, while the women’s record is 2:22:52 established by compatriot Alemu Megertu in 2019.
The Rome Marathon 2024 was won by Taoufik Allam of Morocco (men), and Betty Chepkwony of Kenya, for the women.

Sustainability
The marathon now has achieved ISO 20121 certification through RINA in its pledge towards environmental sustainability.
