The largest independent UK film festival, The Raindance Festival returns to London for its 31st edition in October.

Whereas the BFI London Film Festival is the biggest show in town, Raindance describes itself as the “champion of the underdog”.

Raindance Film Festival Galas

The 2023 Raindance Festival starts on 25 October. A full list of films, shorts and events can be found here.

Highlights are:

Opening Gala: DAY OF THE FIGHT (d. Jack Huston, Canada)

Closing Gala: UN AMOR (d. Isabel Coixet, Spain/Catalonia)

Both are UK premiers.

The films selected for the Best UK films are: LONG DISTANCE SWIMMER – SARA MARDINI; SISTERS INTERRUPTED; RED HERRING; EMBERS; SILENT ROAR; THE PORTRAIT; CATCHING DUST; and WARHOL.

Emerging Indie Talent

Part of the festival’s mission is to unearth fresh indie talent. More than 75% of the films are debut features, with a further 14% are second or third features.

Raindance Awards

Each year the indie film festival has a number of awards. For 2023, this will include: the Discovery Award, Best International Feature, Best UK Feature, Best Documentary Feature, as well as Best Director, Best Performance, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

Raindance Industry Programme

There will also be a Raindance Industry Programme running throughout the festival with masterclasses and talks on filmmaking.

25 October to 4 November, 2023.

Where is the Festival?

The festival will involve screening across London, including the Vue Piccadilly, Garden Cinema, Genesis Cinema, and the Curzons Soho and Mayfair. The House of Raindance industry hub and the Raindance Immersive VR Showcase will be at Wonderville on Haymarket.
