What is Photo Phnom Penh?

Photo Phnom Penh is returning for its 13th outing after a pandemic-fuelled hiatus. It serves as one of Southeast Asia’s major international photo festivals and a platform between photographers, the festival will feature works from across Asia and Europe.

When & Where is Photo Phnom Penh?

The festival will run from October 27 to November 27, with a launch weekend scheduled from October 27 to October 30 in the capital. Exhibitions of featured artists can be seen at the French Institute, Bophana Center, the French Embassy, Friends Future Factory, Sra’Art gallery and Java Creative Cafe TTP.

The Artists

It features work from a host of artists. They include French-Cambodian Jean-Baptiste Phou’s square and black and white self-portraits. Khmer artists Channal Sean’s views of the city at dusk and Vannak Khun’s colour self-portraits of an empty Phnom Penh during lockdown can also be seen.

Singapore’s Zen Teh invites the audience to reconsider their relationship with nature. The Swiss Confederation will occupy the spaces of F3 (Friends Future Factory), with work from 10 artists and an original presentation that shows the tradition of Swiss graphic design.

Conferences, portfolios review, tuk-tuk tours of Photo Phnom Penh’s exhibitions, as well as three evening screenings complete the programme.

The Organisers

The festival is co-organised by the Photo Phnom Penh Association (PPPA) and the Institut Français, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia, the Delegation of the European Union in Cambodia, the French Embassy, and Phnom Penh Town Hall. PPPA is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organisation founded in 2014 that aims to empower and provide technical photography skills and develop training opportunities for young photographers.
