Phaedra, a new play by Simon Stone after Euripides, Seneca and Racine, will be performed at the Lyttelton Theatre, National Theatre from 1 February to 8 April.

Writer-Director Simon Stone reimagines the famous tragedy with Janet McTeer taking the lead role and Assaad Bouab making his UK stage debut.

The Plot of Phaedra

One must not cast stones in a glass house. Phaedra now concentrates on her personal life after years of fiercely focusing on her political career. Her house’s foundations and the convictions that have supported her authority are shaken by her stepson’s reappearance. Phaedra’s actions pose a threat to everything she has achieved as latent passion and loneliness rise to the surface.

Also showing at the National Theatre are Romeo and Julie and Standing at the Sky’s Edge.
