Ghosts will be the first performance of an Ibsen play at the Globe Theatre’s Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in its 10-year history.

Director Joe Hill-Gibbins breathes new life into the 150-year-old play by the master Norwegian playwright. It stars Greg Hicks as Engstrand, Paul Hilton as Father Mendes and Hattie Morahan as Helene Alving.

When first performed Ghosts scandalised the audience with its themes of incest and euthanasia. Helene sets out to erase the past and her dead husband’s legacy. The return of her son Osvald (Stuart Thompson) forces her to make a decision that threatens both her own and her son’s life.
