January sees two of Geneva’s most exciting art events making this an ideal time to visit the Swiss city. Geneva Lux festival will take place between 19 January and 4 February, while Art Genève is from 25 to 28 January. Geneva also has plenty of art galleries for you to explore during your visit.

Geneva Lux Festival

Every year Swiss light artists are invited to create their own installations around the city in the Geneva Lux Festival, which has sustainability very much at the forefront. Exploring the link between humans and the environment, the installations often involve individual participation to power the installations. The result is a dazzling display which lights up Geneva through its darkest months.

Art Genève

The year 2024 will see the 12th rendition of Art Genève, with around 70 galleries participating in the event, and inviting visitors to explore the city’s vast array of contemporary art. The art fair is held at Palexpo Geneva from 25 to 28 January and involves private and public art works encouraging artists to minimise their environmental footprint.

Geneva’s Art Galleries

Amongst the many galleries in the city are the Ariana Museum, which has ceramic art covering twelve centuries; the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art; the Barbier-Mueüller Museum with a large private collection of art from Africa, Oceania and Asia; and the Baur Foundation of Far Eastern Art. But there are many, many more museums and galleries for you to explore on your visit.
