To mark its 20th anniversary the Festival Verdi 2020 is taking to the streets of Parma and Busseto in Emilia Romagna, Italy.
The festival celebrates the music of Giuseppe Verdi, or the Maestro, one of the world’s greatest operatic composers.
Highlights include Roberto Abbado conducting Macbeth and the Requiem Mass, Michele Mariotti debuting in Ernani, and Valerij Gergiev conducting overtures by Verdi and Rossini, as well as symphonies by Mendelssohn and Čaikovskij.
To make the festival more accessible, The Requiem Mass and the Gala Verdiano will be broadcast on screens in squares across the city.
COVID-19 Precautions
In accordance with social distancing protocols and for the safety for performers and audience alike, for the first time the Festival Verdi is to take place in an open-air theatre established in Parco Ducale in front of the Palazzo Ducale. Giuseppe Verdi
Giuseppe Verdi was born in the village of Roncole, just outside Parma, and lived nearby in Busseto for most of his life. Verdi still fascinates music lovers interested in the life of this composer, linked to the Italian Risorgimento.

Verdi Off
On 12 September, 100 artists will perform some of Verdi’s arias in front of houses, palaces, in courtyards, hospitals and prison courts.

Where are the concerts?
Open-air theatre at Parco Ducale in Parma, and the Teatro Regio, Busseto.
Further south, the Sopoleto Festival in Umbria comprises of eight evening of concerts held in the Piazza Duomo and the Roman Theatre.
