The Olivier Theatre will host Brian Friel’s Tony Award-winning drama Dancing at Lughnasa in April. Siobhan McSweeney (Derry Girls), Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted) and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor are among the cast.

Plot of Dancing at Lughnasa

This spectacular production of Dancing at Lughnasa is directed by Mary Queen of Scots actress Josie Rourke.

Outside of Ballybeg, in County Donegal, 1936, during harvest season, the five Mundy sisters struggle against poverty to care for their Uncle Jack and raise Michael, who is seven years old.

Pagan and Christian cultures mix during the Festival of Lughnasa, as the sisters struggle, fall in love, dance and live. The Olivier Award-winning play by Brian Friel is an astounding depiction of a family’s reality just as it is about to alter.
