The Chelsea Fringe, an alternative garden festival that has become a staple of the horticultural calendar, will return for a 12th year in 2023 with nine days of celebrations scheduled for May 20–28. Unfortunately, there will be no Chelsea Fringe for 2024.
Since the inaugural Fringe in 2012, thousands of events have been held across the world. Over the course of ten years, what began as a back-of-a-postcard notion has developed into an international celebration that is a well-established, though unconventional, feature of the horticultural calendar. With many of the festival’s activities being free to attend, it continues to be an unfunded, unsponsored and volunteer run.
Community gardening organisations, public parks, artists, poets, chefs, galleries, schools and important institutions such as Kew are just a few of the places and contributors that have been involved throughout the years.
The event has a significant global impact that extends not just to every neighbourhood in London but also to remote regions of the UK and beyond. Events have taken place on the Isle of Mull, in Monmouth, Margate, Leeds, Bristol and Henley-on-Thames, and the enthusiasm of participants signing up in Australia, Canada and Japan has highlighted the Fringe’s appeal on a worldwide scale.
Typically, events start to emerge on the official website in February, and registration is open all the way up to the festival’s last day. To maximise the promotional possibilities that participating provides, possible organisers are invited to get in touch as soon as feasible. If you would like to participate then contact [email protected].
