Welcome to the second Travel Begins at 40 Podcast – Cambodia Travel Tales Past and Future.

Following the success of our first podcast on Cambodia and the Coronavirus we have invited Nick Ray, writer of the Lonely Planet guides to the country, who also runs local travel company Hanuman with his wife, the talented film director Kulikar Sotho, back to our virtual studio.

Today, we will be taking a trip back in time as Nick reminisces some of his early travel tales, as well as looking forward to what the future holds for travel in Cambodia – in our latest podcast Cambodia Travel Tales Past and Future.

In this Travel Begins at 40 podcast Nick briefs us on the current state of play in COVID19-free Cambodia as well as taking a trip down memory lane on what inspired him to first come to Cambodia in 1995.

His journey starts with an episode of Blue Peter, and includes working with Angelna Jolie on the film for Tomb Raider, as well as with Jeremy Clarkson and Gordon Ramsey, and crossing the Thai-Cambodian border in a somewhat quasi-legal manner as high as a kite.

The podcast also includes Nick’s views on the future of tourism in Cambodia and across the Mekong region, including projects he is now working on to highlight the great Cambodian cuisine, as well as sustainable and responsible tourism initiatives with the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO) in Bangkok.

Nick also discusses the parallels between Cambodia and the East African countries Uganda and Rwanda, on which he has also written extensively for the Lonely Planet.

Let’s hope the situation soon improves both in Cambodia and the rest of the word, and we will once more be able to explore this most wonderful Asian country. In the meantime, Keep Safe and Save Lives.
